Welcome to Our Journey
Today, I'm a Certified Master Naturalist. My friends will tell you I'm a little bit crazy because I talk to trees. I prefer to think of myself as an old-fashioned tree hugger.
For years, I lived in a four-bedroom home with the gardens I'd always dreamed of. I had raised beds overflowing with vegetables, a compost pile working its magic, and pollinator gardens buzzing with bees. On warm evenings, I could sit on my back porch and listen to that same comforting hum I remembered from my grandparents' fig trees. Birds, butterflies, frogs, and lizards all found their place in my little corner of the world.
Then life changed.
Like so many people, I reached a point where it made sense to downsize. Suddenly, I found myself moving from a four-bedroom house into a two-bedroom apartment with two large dogs and, unfortunately, a 10' x 20' storage unit reminding me that I still owned far too much stuff!
What I wasn't prepared for was how much I would miss my gardens.
Gardening wasn't just a hobby. It was part of my identity. It was how I connected with nature, found peace, and contributed something positive to the world around me.
So I made a decision.
Instead of giving up gardening, I would learn how to garden differently.
With only a small outdoor space, I began filling it with containers and creating as much habitat as possible. Before long, the butterflies arrived. Then the hummingbirds. Lizards showed up. Even frogs found their way in. One of my greatest joys is watching children stop and stare as they discover wildlife thriving in this tiny space.
And that's when I realized something important:
When you can't grow out, you grow up.
I began exploring vertical gardening, space-saving solutions, and creative ways to fit a "big garden life" into a much smaller footprint. The more I learned, the more I realized I wasn't alone. More and more people are choosing smaller homes, apartments, condos, townhomes, and simpler lifestyles. Many of us want to live with less while still staying connected to nature.
That's why this store exists.
It's for people who love gardening but don't have acres. It's for people who want to attract birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. It's for people who want to grow food, create beauty, and make a positive impact, no matter how small their space may be.
And when I say "we," I mean it.
Along this journey, I'll be sharing tips and ideas from my experiences as a Master Naturalist, including ways to attract wildlife, create pollinator habitats, grow organically, compost naturally, and make the most of the space you have.
We're learning together.
We're growing together.
And hopefully, along the way, we'll help create a healthier world for ourselves and the wild creatures that share it with us.
